dc.description.abstract | The generation of timetables in secondary schools has never been an easy task, and with the modem trend towards flexible curricula, this task is becoming increasingly complex and difficult. This paper investigates some of the characteristics of the problem which cause the difficulties. A computer based approach to the solution of problems in this area has been developed which finds optimal (or near optimal) solutions in a short enough time to permit iterative development of timetables in secondary schools. | en |
