dc.description.abstract | The general question for this thesis is; 'why and under what conditions does mass revolt occur?' Some well known theories; inequality, relative deprivation, legitimacy, mobilisation, and regime response, were combined into a model for mass revolt. Then, from the theoretical explanation for the model, a series of hypotheses were developed, that were tested using the case studies of Iran 1945-1979 and South Africa 1948-1994. | en |
