dc.description.abstractIn this chapter we review the growing understanding of agriculture as a major pressure on New Zealand freshwater systems, summarize current knowledge of the response of freshwater systems to this pressure with an emphasis on water quality, and discuss how the effects of agriculture can be mitigated and degraded waterbodies rehabilitated. We also predict where future pressures will manifest themselves and identify possible outcomes arising from rehabilitation efforts in agricultural catchments.
