Laboratory tests of compression, shrinkage under air drying conditions and measurements of negative pore water pressures were made on some clays in the natural and remoulded states, with a view to gaining information on the effects of desiccation on the compression characteristics of fine grained soils and the relationship between negative pore water and effective pressures.en
