Abstract

This working paper highlights the inconsistent reporting of financial ratios in the New Zealand print media. Legal implications arising under contract and tort are evaluated for the users and publishers of these ratios. Undesirable consequences affecting accounting standards and the position of the small investor are posited and possible improvements suggested.
