dc.description.abstractIn 2003 the New Zealand Fire Service (NZFS) adopted a competency-based recruitment programme to select trainee firefighters. The current study measured the effectiveness of the selection tests against new recruits’ performance on the job. This report presents the results of the study and discusses potential improvements in the way firefighter applicants are assessed during the recruitment and selection process.en
