Abstract

The MARS readout is a gigabit ethernet camera for MARS-CT scanners using an array of Medipix photon counting detectors. Six Medipix detectors can be read out at a frame rate of up to 100 Hz. A field programmable gate array (FPGA) based controller, with hybrid software and hardware, provides power and control to all the Medipix devices simultaneously. It implements an application programming interface (API) for workstations on a gigabit ethernet network. The network and transport layers are the widely known standard UDP/IP. The camera is mountable on the MARS-CT gantry.
