Abstract

Some Of the literature on rock weathering in the Nonhem Hemisphere and in Antarctica was reviewed _ Particular emphasis was placed on the processes involved especially freeze-thaw, and their relationships to climate and the properties of the rock. The interaction between the studies conducted in the Northern Hemisphere and in Antarctica was explored and any B)tential le+;ons that the latter might have to the Overall debate On rock weathering in cold climates highlighted. The results indicate that studies on rock weathering in Antarctica have a significant contribution to make to this debate but that Northern Hemisphere research takes little cognisance of this, Abstract: Some Of the literature on rock weathering in the Nonhem Hemisphere and in Antarctica was reviewed _ Particular emphasis was placed on the processes involved especially freeze-thaw, and their relationships to climate and the properties of the rock.
