Designing for experience: Arousing boredom to evoke predefined user behaviour. Hong Kong: 6th Conference on Design and Emotion 2008. 2008-2008. Proceedings of the 6th Conference on Design and Emotion 2008.9789881748928http://hdl.handle.net/10092/16703In the light of Cultural Computing, this study influences user affect and behaviour by touching upon core values of Western culture. We created an augmented reality environment in which users experience a predefined sequence of emotional states and events. This study concerns two typically Western drives: boredom and curiosity. We specifically address the arousal of boredom, a mental state characterized by a heightened drive for exploration, making it easier to guide people in their decision making. Based on psychology literature, we introduce general design guidelines for arousing boredom. We report on the design of the augmented reality environment, the experiment effectively arousing boredom and on the redesign of the environment based on the experimental results.enUser AffectEmotionsCultural ComputingBoredomDiversive ExplorationAlice in WonderlandUser BehaviourModelling ExperienceDesignAffective ComputingDesigning for experience: Arousing boredom to evoke predefined user behaviourConference Contributions - Published2019-04-11Field of Research::08 - Information and Computing Sciences::0801 - Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing::080111 - Virtual Reality and Related SimulationField of Research::17 - Psychology and Cognitive Sciences::1702 - Cognitive Science::170202 - Decision MakingFields of Research::46 - Information and computing sciences::4602 - Artificial intelligence::460207 - Modelling and simulationField of Research::08 - Information and Computing Sciences::0806 - Information Systems::080602 - Computer-Human InteractionField of Research::17 - Psychology and Cognitive Sciences::1701 - Psychology::170199 - Psychology not elsewhere classifiedhttps://doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.17893.60642
