The work of Abrahamson (1) has been continued in an effort to develop an instrument package to classify the sizes and solute concentrations of individual drops in a two-phase agitated system. The method used (modulation of a light beam by each drop) is totally unsatisfactory for the measurement of solute concentrations. The author concludes (with some reservations) that the method may be suitable for the measurement of size distributions, but that it offers no benefits compared with more conventional methods (such as photography) at present in use.
