The New Zealand Acrididae have received considerable study over the past decade. Bigelow (1967) has revised their taxonomy; Batcheler (1967), Hudson (1970) and Mason (1971) have studied some of the more inaccessible alpine species; Northcroft (1967) has considered some of the aspects of the life histories of two of the three lowland species, namely Sigaus campestris and Phaulacridium marginale.
