The vegetation of a kettlehole at Cass, Waimakariri R. Basin
Degree GrantorUniversity of Canterbury
Degree NameDoctor of Philosophy
The kettlehole vegetation is noticeably depauperated. The primary cause of this is the complete submergence of the region for some months of each year. This environmental factor operates through both the genotype and the phenotype of the plant. The conclusions were derived from floristic and sociological studies of the vegetation, transplant experiments with viola cunninghamii, and an analysis of the properties of the soil.
