Abstract

Hyperglycaemia is a problem in the intensive care patient population as well as for diabetic individuals. Tight control of blood glucose levels has been shown to reduce complications in these groups and, importantly, mortality rates in the critically ill. For this population, a model-based adaptive control protocol is being developed to achieve a tight blood glucose control. The model is validated in this research by fitting it to insulin and glucose dynamics of a euglycaemic clamp trial, which is considered the ‘gold-standard’ of insulin sensitivity assessments
