Introduction New Zealand is a signatory to the UNISDR Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The Framework sets out four priorities: the first involves understanding disaster risks across all dimensions of vulnerability.
The capacities and vulnerabilities of people with extreme obesity have yet to be explored in the disaster risk reduction literature. While people have been impacted in disasters in relation to their size, shape and weight, the literature is ‘conspicuously invisible’ on this topic and no empirical research was located.
