Abstract
By means of a detailed investigation of some particular examples, this paper attempts to assess some qualitative properties of the quadratic function approximation. Particular attention is paid to the size of the region over which this is a good approximation, and to comparisons of the accuracy of the approximation with the more traditional Pade and Taylor approximations.
